First Impressions: Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit's new releases are always hotly anticipated and the brand stir the beauty scene everytime they put something new on the shelves. This time, it's the turn of the new 'Roller Lash' Mascara to take the market by storm. In this month's issue of Elle Magazine, Benefit have been giving away Mini Roller Lash Mascara's ahead of it's launch in March. I picked up a copy, to see if this product deserves the hype like the rest of them, and thought I'd give you my first impressions. Here is what I think of it...

THE PACKAGING

This is the very first impression you can have of a product. It's got to grab you on the shelf and this product is very attractive. In the full sized version the mascara lid is designed to look like a hair roller but even though this isn't the case in the sample size, it is still a very pretty, glossy pink. A lot of effort seems to have been made on the packaging - very luxurious, very Benefit!

THE MASCARA BRUSH

First impressions of this were very good. It's a very dainty brush, that has a slight curve to it, and allows very precise application. The shape of the brush seems to be something Benefit are really keen to make consumers aware of as the inner side of the curve seems to has some smaller bristles than the outer side of the curve, which allows the brush to hook the eyelashes, and shape them into the rolled shape. Because the applicator is quite short, I had to work my way along the eyelashes, about three times to cover them all, but if you had quite small eyes, I imagine it would fit perfectly.

THE FORMULA
_________________________________________________________________________________

I believe this product is all about the brush, and less about the formula of the mascara. However, the formula is still great, and doesn't flake or wear it. It's easy to apply and doesn't leave clumps.

The combination of the formula and brush leaves a lot of product on the lashes making them more defined. Because of this I wasn't a fan of it on my bottom lashes, as I feel it made them look really long, and if I dare say it, a little bit spidery. So yeah, when I wear this mascara, I'll stick to keeping it on my top lashes, and wear something else, like my Clinique Mascara on the bottom.

THE CLAIMS
_________________________________________________________________________________

The Roller Lash Mascara claims to be a 'Super Curling and Lifting Mascara'.
Is it Super Curling? Yeah, definitely. It claims that you don't need to use eyelash curlers, with this product because it gives the effect of both on its own, and I wouldn't say you do need to, which I would say means that Benefit are right....it is super curling!
Is it lifting? Yes, but I think this is because it is really curling. It's formula is strong, so holds the eyelashes in place, and holds them up and lifted.

THE CONCLUSION
_________________________________________________________________________________

I really like this mascara. I don't think it will be for everyone, and I would really recommend picking up this month's copy of Elle Magazine if you get the chance, to give the sample a try before you indulge in parting with the £19.50 it will cost you to buy the full sized version.

Have you tried the new Roller Lash Mascara? Will it ever have as much success as the market leader, they're real! Mascara? What do you think?
